| Our TDI corresponds to the SkyVisual Module
applied to Towers and Approach applications as a multi-screen /
multi-task / multi-source air traffic management tool. It uses radar
images to control flight Approaches as well as Take-off / Landing movements.
TDI has been operational for more than 4 years in 8 airports in Switzerland and Germany.
The ATCO can select the RAP (Radar Approach Position) option at any moment. This immediately changes the system from a "Tower traffic management" tool to an "Approach traffic management" tool together with its associated display settings.
This
radar mode switching capability works as if an aircraft was visually
tracked along its approach flight path thanks to an auto zoom-in or
zoom-out process.
While
in the RAP mode, the Controller handles the flight approaches and can
also be aided by more precise measurement tools such as the grid
display. The integrated flight plan information is also accessible in
this configuration.
The
same hardware equipment can thus be used for the 2 different
applications which optimizes costs and space requirements, often
critical in Towers.
The
secondary radar window permanently shows the ATCO a complete overview
of the current sky situation in order to provide a comfortable work
environment.
Furthermore,
being able to drag the windows from a screen to another considerably
improves the global visibility and the HMI friendliness, something that
ATCO's often attest to.
An
additional benefit is that the same tool can handle the ACC Approach
during daytime (heavy traffic) and the final Landing / Take-off
function during nighttime (light traffic) in its RAP configuration. Thanks to TDI's versatility the operational costs for personnel can easily be optimized. |
